This picture shows the location of a nest and of special interest is the distance from
the top of the  nest to the ceiling. The background around the nest was painted to
reduce the glare from the white stucco background. The nest was situated at the
intersection  of two walls and very close to the ceiling.  The short  distance to the
ceiling is just enough for the bird parents to move in and out of the  nest but keep
out larger predators. At the left is the egg sac of the Black and Yellow Argiope
spider at the right. Once in a while there will be this unusual sharing of a location
by nature's creatures. Although the swallows were probably gone by the time the
spider came along. In one case I found a Yellow Jacket wasp nest attached to a
spider egg sac.
