Antonia

I did not know you for very long.
I watched you sit to eat, all alone.
Once or twice our paths would cross in
the hall.
And you would say hello.
I feel bad that I did not sit next to you
when you sat to eat alone
just to say hello or good-bye
not knowing that I would not be able to
say hello any more.
But I know you will not be alone any
more,
because where you are people will be
saying hello.
So now I have to say good-bye.
And now I am sitting all
alone.

The work in this issue of Huehuetitlan is comprised of works from the Kennedy High School Student body, including a select group of students in the 1999-2000 after-school creative writing program. The creative writing program were elements of the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center's Literature Program - BryceMilligan, Director, supported by generous grants from the Surdna Foundation and the Kronkosky Foundation.
Ms. Anel Flores, other staff members, students at Kennedy High School and the creative writing program students as well, selected the materials. Kennedy High School provided the classroom space. Additional support for the production of this magazine came from Angela de Hoyos, General editor of M&A Editions, as a continuing effort to document the literary works of young chicano/a writers.
